Elected Officials

The township trustees are elected during general election dates and serve 4 year terms. Two Officials are on the ballet at one time during general election. In the year 2009 two trustees will be elected and in the year 2011 a Trustee and Clerk will be elected. The Trustees of Put-in-Bay Township fall under similiar guidelines as Ottawa County and has many of the County's resources available to them. The Township works closely with Ottawa Countys Engineer's Office and Prosecuters.

The duty of a township trustee is to provide fair and representative government to all citizens according to law and to the best of their ability. Their goal is to make certain the township remains an enjoyable place to live for both permanent and seasonal residents.

Put-in-Bay Township Trustees

President Matt Miller

Matt has lived in Put-in-Bay Township for 34 years. Matt has been married to Laureen for 26 years and is father of Tavis, Michael and Sonya. His career in public service has included 7 years on village council and over 10 years as Township Trustee. Matt beleives in local Government because of the closeness with the people you represent. His goals as Township Trustee are to make it affordable to live here and to keep taxes as low as possible to give our future generations a chance to stay here. These future generations could someday become our next Fire, EMS, Police and Elected Officials.

Glenn Cooper

Glenn is a lifelong island resident and fourth generation islander. He has been married 30 years to Susie, Director of the Lake Erie Islands Historical Society. He Graduated from Put-in-Bay High School in 1974 and spent four years on the recreation commitee, two years on the Village Planning Commisiion and seven years as a village councilman. Glenn is in his 5th year as Put-in-Bay Township Trustee. Glenn is a former volunteer fireman and also active in the Navy League and is the liason with the USS Lake Erie.

Dale Burris

Dale was raised on North Bass Island and flew the Ford Tri Motor to high school. He was a paratrooper in the army, spending one year in Vietnam. Dale is married to Kerry Wilson from Put-in-Bay and they have two daughters, three step sons and four grand children. Dale worked for Meiers Wine Cellars for 37 years, and manager of Meiers Vineyard operation for 32 years before retiring in 2004. He presently works for the Ohio State Park system at North Bass Island. Dale has been a Put-in-Bay Township Trustee for the past 36 years.

Fiscal Officer - Rick Rothert

Rick was born and raised in Toledo Ohio and a summer resident of Put-in-Bay Township until graduating from Central Catholic High School, Toledo in 1964. Rick joined the US Navy in 1964 and served in the Submarine Service aboard the Thomas A Edison. Rick worked for Western Electric Co in their Installation Division through out Ohio, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C.. In 1995 Rick retired making Put-in-Bay his permanent home with wife Linda of 37 years. Rick has 2 daughters, 8 grand children and 3 great grandchildren living in the Dayton and Cincinnati area. Rick was a caller of Western Square dancing for 20 years and enjoys fishing, sailing and camping when he is not fulfilling the duties of the Fiscal Officer for the Township or volunteering as and EMT for the Township EMS.
